The LiveJournal Era (2003 - 2008)

THU OCT 23 2003 - 19:12:42 UTC

Ah... LiveJournal. I remember fuzzily when I first found out about LJ. I was at a diner in Houston (perhaps House of Pies?) with several of my high school and university friends. We were catching up, as one does, and the topic of personal blogs came up. Once I got back home, I created an LJ account and linked up with all the friends that were also on there.
I stayed pretty busy on there for a while. Many of the posts were friends only (or even subsets of friends), so it was really was a personal blog. Real names got used, replies would go back and forth, and cool stuff was shared.
I considered posting all of the entries from LJ here. I wrote the tooling, converted all of it, and painstakingly edited all of it.
etc. etc.
And then I sat on it for two months.
It was around this time that I got busy with dates, but I also wanted to have some time away from all the material so I could do another editing pass with fresh eyes. To make sure that I caught everything that I didn't want going back up on the open net.
But I eventually realized that I didn't really want to post it all. So much of it is just... personal and boring. Or it would not make much sense to someone that wasn't my friend back then. Oh yeah, I also used multiple userpics to convey tone... and I don't really feel like trying to rebuild that as well.
So I'm writing this post instead.
So what all did I talk about then?
The thing that strikes me most about reading it now, 20 years later, is how much I poured into that blog. But yet, the writing was restrained. I never really went deep on myself - it was all day-in-the-life stuff. I just sorta ooched my way down the cis/het/monog treadmill. None of the yearnings for something different made it in. By that time, I had already pushed all of those feelings down very deep.
lol
Anyhow, the LJ era came to an end when LJ got bought by the Russians and everybody scattered. I ended up on Blogger.
